Encaustic painting is one of the oldest forms of painting, used in ancient Egypt to create tomb portraits.. This interesting medium which utilizes melted wax, resin and pigment. What I enjoy most in working with this medium is it's versatility; I can paint, collage, carve, imprint and add layer upon layer to an image. Wax has a property of preservation which is also compelling: I know whatever I create with it could last for thousands of years - it's like a time capsule. I recently have begun using horse hair as a drawing tool and I'm fascinated by the interaction between the organic materials.
